Copy Editing - refers to the process of formatting, styling, and correction of written text. Copy Editing is the last step prior to proofreading.  The Copy Edit process does not involve any changes to the substance of the copy, only editing for grammatical errors, spelling, punctuation, semantics, and style. During the Copy Edit process, many times headers, footers, and photo captions are added to content.

The Copy Editor may also be responsible for making sure that an article flows well, is accurate and makes sense. However if there is confusing or ambiguous content, the Copy Editor will typically ask the writer to clarify the copy.
